About Ruthzee Louijeune

Ruthzee Louijeune serves as the President of the Boston City Council, a position she has held since January 2024. As an at-large member of the council since January 2022, she made history as the first Haitian American to serve on the council. Born and raised in Boston’s Mattapan and Hyde Park neighborhoods, she is the daughter of Haitian immigrants and a proud graduate of Boston Public Schools and Boston Latin School.

Louijeune earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in 2008 and went on to obtain a Juris Doctor and a master’s in public policy from Harvard University in 2014. Her professional career as an attorney was marked by her commitment to social justice, including representing families facing eviction and engaging in voting rights cases.

Leadership and Advocacy

Before her political career, Louijeune worked as senior counsel for Senator Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 presidential campaign and founded Opening PLLC, a legal and advocacy firm dedicated to promoting affordable homeownership in Boston. Her career reflects a deep commitment to addressing systemic disparities and empowering underserved communities.
